Describe a person you know who did something difficult and was successful

I'd like to talk about my mother, who runs a small tailor's shop in Hoi An and who pulled off something I honestly thought was impossible. In October 2020 the town was hit by one of the worst floods in years. The water in our street rose to about a metre and a half overnight, and by the time we could wade back in, all four of her sewing machines were ruined and most of her fabric was covered in mud. On top of that, it was the middle of the pandemic, so there were no tourists to sell to anyway. She was fifty-one, with a loan still to pay off. I remember her standing in the doorway, and saying, "Well, the walls are still here. That's a start." What made it so hard was that she had to change the whole way she worked. She had always relied on visitors walking past, and she barely knew how to use a smartphone. But she borrowed a second-hand machine from a cousin, asked me to set up a Facebook page, and started making linen dresses to order for customers in Da Nang and Saigon. In the first month she sold six dresses. By Tet she was getting around forty orders a month, and within a year she had cleared the loan and bought new machines. I felt enormously proud, and a little ashamed too, because I had quietly assumed she would give up. Watching her start from scratch at that age taught me that being stubborn can be a real strength. These days she ignores my business advice completely, and I've decided she has earned the right.
